                                                            Welcome
We are celebrating our 20th Anniversary.

This year the Houston Association of Panamanians, Inc. (HAP) is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a non-profit charitable organization in Houston, Texas.  Throughout these years we've been sharing the stories of our Caribbean descent ancestors who built the Panama Canal to ensure that they will be remembered for many years to come.  These notable men and women were not only the "real hands-on builders" of the Panama Canal, but it's important to note that a large number of them lost their lives during the construction of this waterway which linked the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.  The completion of this waterway in1914 was a significant factor to the U.S. attaining "super-power" status among worldwide nations at that time in history.  Our ancestors also went on to make tremendous contributions to the culture and prosperity of Panama and wherever they lived in the U.S. or other regions of the world.  HAP will make every effort to ensure that the historical contributions of "the real builders of the Panama Canal" stories will remain for future generations to come.

HAP will now expand its focus to include inspiring stories of the children and grandchildren of the Builders of the Panama Canal.  We will begin sharing some of their stories and invite you, our friends and supporters of HAP to submit similar summaries, recollections and photos.  You may submit them to our email address at houstonpanamanians@gmail.com.  Let's ensure that our contributions as a people are told and never forgotten. The stories will be displayed on our website in the section entitled "Our Stories".
